Program Overview
From Classroom to Career
Our Workforce Readiness Services are designed to help youth and young adults with disabilities transition successfully from school to employment. Through specialized curriculum, hands-on training, and one-on-one support, students build the foundational skills, confidence, and career awareness needed to thrive in the workforce.
Ways to Partner
Vocational Adjustment Training (VAT)
Work readiness classes covering soft skills, money management, workplace behavior, and more.
Embedded Training
Intensive, 80-hour program blending key VAT concepts into a month-long immersive experience.
Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS)
Individualized support in job exploration, postsecondary counseling, and self-advocacy.
Work Experience Training
Real-world job placements with certified trainers guiding students through skill development and job responsibilities.
Project SEARCH
Project SEARCH is an international, innovative business-led school to work training program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through Project SEARCH, student interns gain marketable job skills at a host business site with the ultimate goal of achieving employment at either the host site or a similar business. Since the Fall of 2024, U&I has partnered with Dallas ISD, Texas Workforce Solutions – Vocational Rehabilitation Services (TWS-VRS), and Baylor University Medical Center to provide training and job placement services to Dallas ISD students. We will partner with Duncanville ISD and Charleton Methodist Hospital in the Fall of 2026 for our second Project SEARCH program.
